The National Conference on the Preliminary Findings of the Assessment of Media Development in South Sudan will be a full-day interactive event where organizations, experts, donors, journalists and other media professionals in South Sudan will review recommendations on taking media development forward in the country.
UNESCO and IMS carried out an assessment of the media landscape in South Sudan in 2013. The media assessment cannot be complete without the involvement of local experts and stakeholders. The purpose of the conference is to reach consensus on the recommendations to address major challenges of the South Sudan media landscape. The recommendations are intended to provide local stakeholders – including civil society, state institutions and relevant professional communities – with a detailed mapping of key media development needs in the country, based on the internationally accepted and tested Media Development Indicators methodology.
