Project type: Regional Statistical Support
Objectives:
The main objective of this project is to foster and promote evidence-based policy planning for Education for All (EFA). This will entail helping countries throughout the region set up a systematic monitoring mechanism, which involves strengthening institutional capacities in EFA monitoring, evaluation and assessment.
Participating countries: Countries in Asia and the Pacific region particularly post-conflict and least developed countries (LDC). Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Cook Islands, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Japan, Kazakhstan, Kiribati, Kyrgyzstan, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Macao (China), Malaysia, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Federated States of), Mongolia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, New Zealand, Niue, Pakistan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Tokelau, Tonga, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu and Viet Nam.
Main activities:
· Regional consultation and strategic planning workshop.
· Develop a training programme and materials based on the Guidelines for EFA Monitoring, Evaluation and Assessment as well as experiences and lessons learned from the EFA Mid-Decade Assessment process. The training programme will be jointly developed with regional research and training institutes.
· Organization of initial “train the trainer” sessions in order to develop a pool of national trainers and to adapt training materials to the national context
· Organization of training sessions in three pilot countries for district-level education officials.
· Develop data plans for all participating countries in order to establish guidelines on the collection, processing and dissemination of education statistics at the national and international levels.
Immediate beneficiaries: Department of Planning and Statistics within the Ministries of Education, EFA coordinators, policy-makers, researchers, planners and statisticians.
