From 5 to 7 December, Gaziantep, Turkey, a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, hosted a research workshop on the “History of Food Culture Based Relations on the Silk Road”. The meeting brought together Gaziantep and other Creative Cities of Gastronomy located on the Silk Road – namely Chengdu and Shunde (China), Rasht (Iran [Islamic Republic of]) and Jeonju (Republic of Korea) – as well as experts, academics, notably from the UNESCO Silk Road Platform, and representatives of local authorities.
Dénia, a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, together with the Valencian Board for Tourism, will hold from 29 September  to 1 October, the 1st edition of the D*na Gastronomic Festival born from a passion for Mediterranean food and local products.
Parma and other 7 UNESCO Creative Cities of Gastronomy cooperated during the city’s Festival Gola Gola by involving their chefs in a “UNESCO Dinner” and a “UNESCO Creative Comparison” cooking shows.
On 2 April, on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, Parma, a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, lighted up its monuments in blue, together with cities in Italy and around the world, for raising awareness on a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects one child out of 68.
Over the course of eight days, Chefs from Tsuruoka, Japan (Gastronomy) were welcomed by their peers in Bilbao, Spain (Design) for a culinary collaboration putting both Creative Cities’ food cultures into dialogue.
This year’s edition of Jamtli Spring Fair will take place on 20 and 21 May. The Fair will be showcasing traditional products, crafts and plants proposed by local artisans, as well as various interactive activities.  The event puts an emphasis on sustainable products and methods, such as clothes promoting slow fashion, ecosystem services and renewable energies.
Last month, from 10 to 29 January, the Tsuruoka Creative City of Gastronomy Promotion Council, in cooperation with an executive committee consisting of citizens, held “The First Delicious Food Film Festival” in Tsuruoka, during which food-related films were screened for one week. The event aimed at developing food awareness and promoting local industries by providing the citizens with opportunities to learn about gastronomy. Japan, 1 November – Among the 44 applicants from around Japan, 5 areas, including Tsuruoka, Creative City of Gastronomy, were awarded the “Savor Japan” Certification, an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to attract and raise awareness worldwide tourists to Japanese farming, mountain and fishing villages.
From 19 to 21 October, Jeonju, in cooperation with the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, have organized the 2016 edition of the UNESCO Creative Cities Forum at the National Intangible Heritage Centre of Jeonju, a Creative City of Gastronomy since 2012. The two-day forum was themed “Sustainable Creative Cities Networks” and has focused on reflections and case studies demonstrating the capacity of culture and creativity, of the field of gastronomy in particular, to foster better quality of life in urban areas.
The X UCCN Annual Meeting took place in Östersund, Sweden, from 14 to 16 September 2016. This event gathered over 250 participants, including 22 mayors, representing nearly 100 Creative Cities. This was the largest meeting in the Network’s history, which is now, as one knows, made up of 116 cities from 54 countries worldwide.  For the occasion, Alice Bah Kuhnke, Sweden’s Minister for Culture and Democracy, has defined the Network as follows:
