v_charneau Registered: December 2004 Posts: 4,164	Postcard from Singapore to Shanghai, China. A barefooted Malay postman in uniform, complete with a bag and an umbrella delivering letters on foot. It was noted that, in 1854 the Singapore Post Office was located on the river bank at the foot of Fort Canning. Without a footbridge over the Singapore River, businesses on the opposite bank had to send their mails by sampan, using special messengers. Local letters were delivered twice daily on working days.
