9th Extraordinary Session of the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST)

The public meetings of the 9th Extraordinary Session of COMEST will be held in conjunction with the 23rd (Ordinary) Session of the IBC and the IGBC. These sessions will be held in Room XI at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 14 and 15 (morning) September 2016.

The first part of the morning of 14 September 2016 will be devoted to agenda items common to the IBC, the IGBC and COMEST, namely the progress report of the UNESCO bioethics and ethics of science programme, and an update on the revision of the Recommendation on the Status of Scientific Researchers (1974). These will be followed by discussion of the two main work topics of the IBC for 2016-2017: the bioethical response to the situation of refugees and big data and health.

The morning of 15 September 2016 will be devoted to the two main work topics of COMEST for 2016-2017: water ethics and robotics ethics.

Meetings reserved for IBC and COMEST members only will be organized on 12, 13, 15 (after the closing of the public session), and 16 September 2016.
