IPDC Project beneficiary type: Civil society organizations

Since 1992, the Fondation SAKS has been working with grassroots organizations to help the Haitian people break their isolation and overcome the inadequacies of the communications network. Through to this project, Fondation SAKS aims to transform two community radios, situated in Cayes, in the south and Mare-Rouge in the north-west, into community multimedia centres. ERBOL is an NGO based in La Paz, Bolivia. It is dedicated to using radio as a means for providing education, social service and pluralistic news. The present project is designed to provide training in radio production, programming content and management to radio practitioners from stations affiliated with ERBOL, with a view to developing an electronic news bulletin distributed to ERBOL members, and to producing a weekly radio programme on national affairs.

The aim of the project was to upgrade Cambodia's only women's radio station with modern broadcast equipment. A women's NGO known as the Women's Media Centre (WMC) established the radio station initially as a pilot scheme entitled 'Women Speaking To Women radio' through UNESCO regular programme support. Within the IPDC project, WMC requested support to upgrade the broadcast and production equipment enabling the station to cater to a larger audience.

The aim of this project is to promote the local media and in particular television in order to benefit isolated rural communities in the mountain region of Sierra Maestra. ANAP (National Association of Small Farmers) thus wishes to fulfil the needs of rural populations for information.
