The aim of the project is to improve the quality of media training, promote good governance, and build capacity among journalists so that men, women and youth are portrayed in balanced manner in the media.

While the DRC has begun to enjoy media pluralism, instances of abuse are frequent due to the lack of neutrality and objectivity in the media. This project will therefore provide Congolese media professionals with training concerning peace journalism in order to promote their awareness of their role in the ongoing peace and reconciliation process, to strengthen their capacity and understanding with regard to conflict-related issues. and to acquaint them with the standards and principles upon which peace journalism is based.

Follow-up monitoring and evaluation activities will follow the seminars. Other possibilities include press conferences, educational broadcasts to keep a record of the information from the conferences, and internships....

The Agence Congolaise d'Information (ACI), whose principal aim is to gather and disseminate national and international news to all regions of the country initiated this project with the development objective of rehabilitating the ACI's entire infrastructure and also ensuring the permanent training of editorial, management and maintenance staff. In the short term, it is intended that the computer equipment will be acquired for ACI's Head Office in Brazzaville as well as in its five provincial offices.

Implemented over the period 1993-1996.
