UNESCO Director-General Condemns Nice attacks

UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova

"Once again, France, UNESCO's host country, was hard hit last night in Nice by a murderous violence that struck at the heart of the values of solidarity and togetherness that united so many people on the national holiday of Bastille Day.

On behalf of UNESCO and in my own name, I firmly condemn this tragedy and express my deep sadness and sincere condolences to the French people and authorities, and to the families and friends of the victims.

This barbaric attack will never win over our shared resolve to unrelentingly pursue our efforts to prevent violent extremism through education for global citizenship and human rights, respect for cultural diversity and the power of culture as a force for social inclusion. More than ever, in the face of this hatred and attempt  to destroy the fabric of our humanity, our Organization is determined to multiply actions that anchor the values of peace and dialogue in our societies. UNESCO stands by France in crossing this terrible ordeal."
