Self-construction and Social Transformation: Lifelong, Lifewide and Life-deep Learning, is a book that recognizes the intimate nature of the education and learning that takes place in the course of adults’ lives and how these ultimately transform their lives. This transformation raises two closely related issues: the need for individuals to achieve autonomy in today’s risk society, and the need for social conditions that enable transformation. In response to these issues, the author, adult education researcher and scholar Paul Bélanger, provides a thorough analysis of how these insights can be incorporated into discussions of transformation and learning, work and learning, social change, aging, and community education, as well as policy and practice.
UIL has led the publication of the English translation of this book as it can be used by educational institutions as a teaching text discussion starter for a course or seminar.
