Niue Star - Human Resource Development - Niue

Year when project approved:

This project aims at buiding the human resources of the 'Niue Star', Niue's only newspaper, published in Niuean with an English translation. The project will address the lack of formal training and development for staff involved in the overall management of the business, in the production of news articles, in writing and reporting, and in layout, printing and production. It will offer training to 3 members of the Niue Star staff, in view of ensuring that a quality newspaper is produced twice a week. The Niue Star is currently making plans to change its format from an A4 colour to a tabloid format colour newspaper. This change is necessary due to the introduction of two new rival newspapers on the New Zealand market over the last 6 months. The proposed training for the Niue Star staff is important to ensure that it can continue delivering an attractive and informative newspaper to Niuean communities in Niue and abroad.
