Regions: Asia and the Pacific

The project was completed in two phases: developing and upgrading the Laos National News Agency (KPL) facsimile network and extending it, in this case, by increasing the number of messages handled.

Tambuli represented an important effort to develop rural, independent and pluralistic communication in the isolated regions of the Philippines. this project had promoted appropriate communication facilities that stimulated the exchange of information among community members. Tambuli radio provoked major changes in Filipino local community life, in particular the elimination of gambling and the improvement of social life in communities. Tambuli Radio won the 1995 UNESCO-IPDC Rural Communication Prize.

Period: 1992-1995

As part of an overall endeavour to enhance the resources of audiovisual bodies in the Asia-Pacific region, this project aimed to train specialists in programming and audiovisual techniques, supply training modules and teaching materials to specialized training centres and provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and experience in the field of basic computer education.
