Strengthening independent and high quality journalism in Ecuador through investigative reporting and ethical standards
Ecuador has recently approved a Communications Law that restricts the exercise of free expression. In order to minimize this Law's potential for self-censorship and external interference and to build a culture of high-quality journalism, this project will train journalism students, journalists and media leaders on best practices (including self-regulation, transparency and high ethical standards).
The following activities took place: 1. One workshop held in the city of Quito on July 28th, 29th and 30th, with the assistance of 18 journalists. Workshop focused on: Quality of media content; Media credibility in Ecuador; Assessment of Internet consumption in Ecuador; Quality of digital journalism in Ecuador. 2. One workshop held in the city of Quito on July 31st, with the assistance of 12 media directors. Workshop focused on: Quality of media content; Media credibility in Ecuador; Assessment of Internet consumption in Ecuador; Quality of digital journalism in Ecuador. 3. One workshop held in the city of Quito on August 1st, with the assistance of 14 social communications students from Universidad de los Hemisferios and other universities. Workshop focused on: Media credibility in Ecuador; Quality of digital journalism in Ecuador; Quality of media content. 4. One workshop held in the city of Guayaquil on August 4th and 5th, with the assistance of 15 journalists.Workshop focused on: Quality of media content; Media credibility in Ecuador; Assessment of Internet consumption in Ecuador; Quality of digital journalism in Ecuador. 5. One workshop held in the city of Cuenca on August 7th and 8th, with the assistance of 18 journalists. Workshop focused on: Quality of media content; Media credibility in Ecuador; Assessment of Internet consumption in Ecuador; Quality of digital journalism in Ecuador 2.0.
