Support for Journalist Training
The training of journalists has long since been a topic of debate in Haiti, with no state-run higher education institution offering a degree in the subject. The situation is particularly difficult for journalists in the communes of Saint-Marc and Mirebalais, two important towns in terms of size, location, and the number of established media outlets, since unlike their counterparts in neighboring parts of the country, they do not have access to a MINUSTAH Multimedia Centre to assist their work and exchange knowledge. This project from the Association of Haitian Journalists (AJH) will attempt to remedy the situation by opening a Centre for Ongoing Training in Journalism, as well as two Press Centres in Saint-Marc and Mirebalais. Training on journalism techniques (including modules on freedom of expression, pluralism and diversity) will be provided to a target group of Haitian journalists from selected areas, with an immediate objective of strengthening their capacity and providing a venue to work and share knowledge. OBJECTIVE To open a Centre for Ongoing Training in Journalism and provide training to Haitian journalists from targeted areas, as well as opening two Press Centres in Saint-Marc and Mirebalais, thus providing journalists from these areas with a venue to work and exchange knowledge.
