Conference on Transformative Information and Knowledge Management for Sustainable Development

UNESCO will support Technical University of Kenya (TUK) to organise a 3-day regional conference themed “Transformative Information and Knowledge Management for Sustainable Development” in Nairobi, Kenya. The conference will provide the participants with a platform to contribute to and benefit from the discourses on how best to integrate information ethics in the theory and practice of information and knowledge management in an increasingly networked and rights aware society.
During the conference, participants will be taken through roundtables on Information Ethics in Africa – Beacons and Milestones, in which the following themes will be covered: Moral theories and information ethics; Information ethics dilemmas; Information ethics in Africa: status, challenges and remedies; Freedom of access to information policies: best practices and models; Freedom of expression; Roles and rights in a free info sphere; Information ethics research; and Advocacy, networking and alliance building for enhanced information access.

Participants to the conference will comprise of international and local academics, practitioners, policy makers and students drawn from all specialisations in the information and knowledge management field with varied experiences.

This activity is organised within the framework of UNESCO’s Main Line of Actions to enable universal access and preservation of information and knowledge and the Expected Result to promote Open Solutions for Knowledge Societies in Kenya.
