Michael Worbs visits the Association of Auditors of the European sessions of the Institut des Hautes Etudes de Défense Nationale (IHEDN Europe): "UNESCO's actions in the area of Oceans in relation to climate change, natural disasters and protection of heritage.

3 June 2016 - Third Intersessional Meeting of Executive Board Members

The Third Intersessional Meeting of Executive Board Members was organized on 3 June 2016, by H.E. Mr Michael Worbs, Chairperson of the Executive Board and Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of the Federal Republic of Germany to UNESCO.

Over 140 Permanent Delegations and Observers participated in this third Intersessional Meeting, open to all Members of the Executive Board, as well as Member States non-Member of the Executive Board as observers with enhanced participation status and representatives from the Secretariat.

The Intersessional Meetings were approved by the Executive Board during its 197th session to take place during the 2016-2017 biennium on an experimental basis. While these meetings will have no decision-making power, they will be able to foster discussions in view of the regular formal Executive Board sessions.

1 June 2016 – Seminar | UNESCO headquarters: a modern architecture in Paris

The Chairperson of the Executive Board, H. E. Mr Michael Worbs opened the Seminar | UNESCO headquarters: a modern architecture in Paris.

This event, proposed and chaired by Daniel Janicot, President of the French National Commission for UNESCO and Philippe Bélaval, Chairperson of the Centre des monuments nationaux, placed under the direction of Christine Desmoulins, architecture critic and specialist of Bernard Zerhfuss, was organized on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the French National Commission for UNESCO and the publication of the book " UNESCO Headquarters", Éditions du patrimoine.

14-17 March 2016 – 4th World Congress of Biosphere Reserves

The Chairperson of the Executive Board, H.E. Mr Michael Worbs, participated in the 4th World Congress of Biosphere Reserves, which took place in Lima, Peru, on 14-17 March 2016.

The Congress addressed issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Post-2015 Development Agenda, including education for sustainable development, the economic viability of nature conservation systems, biodiversity, and the protection and sustainable use of natural resources.
