workshop on Human remains analysis in museums

Within the framework of the UNESCO assistance project for the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Cairo-NMEC, as part of the workplan for 2016 signed between UNESCO and the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, two workshops were organized for scientific staff, under the auspices of the Minister of Antiquities.

On 11 February 2016 a workshop on Egyptian Archaeobotany: Current Views and Future Perspectives was jointly organized by NMEC/Ministry of Antiquities, UNESCO and the American Research Center in Egypt –ARCE. It looked at the theories and applications of the archaeobotany of ancient Egypt and the creation of an archaeobotany working-group in the museum.

On 18-21 February 2016, a workshop on Human remains analysis in museums was jointly organized by NMEC/Ministry of Antiquities, UNESCO, the Zurich University of Medicine/ Institute of Evolutionary Medicine (IEM), the Egyptology Department at the American University in Cairo-AUC and the National Research Centre-NRC, in addition to tutors from the British Museum. The participation of IEM follows a started cooperation with NMEC, having the University hosted 2 NMEC trainees in its premises for 3 week in-the-job training, in late 2015.
