Roundtable Workshop on “Science and Knowledge for Advancing the 2030 SDGs in the Arab Region”

Towards supporting effective, efficient, and timely use of science and knowledge in the processes of SDG achievement in the Arab region and under the auspices of His Excellency Professor Dr. Ashraf Mohamed Al-Sheehy, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Sciences in the Arab States – Cairo (UCO) organized the Roundtable Workshop on “Science and Knowledge for Advancing the 2030 SDGs in the Arab Region”, in Cairo, Egypt from 25 to 26, May, 2016.   

Structured as an interactive round table platform for discussions and joint consultations, the main aim of this workshop is to formulate a joint vision and outlines of a master plan for the effective activation and deployment of science and knowledge for achieving the SDG in the Arab region.  In addition to identification of major issues, challenges and opportunities; major responsibilities and roles of stakeholders shall be identified including the potential role of UCO in advancing the Science/ Knowledge and SDG agenda in the Arab region. More than 30 regional and international expert; representatives of UN and regional organizations; regional stakeholders including private sector, NGOs and partners from academia and research institutions will be participating in the workshop.
