UNESCO and Makhzoumi Foundation conclude the “Enhancing work and life skills for Youth” project in the Bekaa

UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Beirut and the Makhzoumi Foundation concluded their joint project "Enhancing work and life skills for youth affected by the Syrian crisis"; a new initiative implemented with the support of the Finnish Government to help young men and women establish and manage Artisan businesses as a solution to the problem of unemployment that these young men and women are suffering from due to the political instability in the region and the Syrian refugee crisis.

The project included three workshops targeting 40 Lebanese and Syrians, and implemented in the centres of the Makhzoumi Foundation in the cities of Baalbek and Fourzol. The first workshop, held in the Centre of the Makhzoumi Foundation in Fourzol, included training in handling papers and the art of agglutination (reduction and reuse and recycling of waste), while participants were trained in a second workshop in Baalbek in beekeeping. In a third workshop, participants were trained in how to weave on a loom.

Each workshop included awareness-raising and training sessions on the principles of work and life skills for business projects, through introducing participants to leadership skills, and giving them an overview on UNESCO’s package about the establishment and management of micro-enterprises: "How do I start my own small business; practical applications/exercises”.

Concluding the training sessions, participants in these workshops received an official certificate by UNESCO Regional Office and Makhzoumi Foundation, as well as basic equipment that would help them put their newly acquired knowledge into practice.
