    Samoa joined UNESCO on April 3, 1981. The country hosts UNESCO’s Cluster Office for the Pacific. Established in 1983, the UNESCO Apia Office covers 16 Member States and 1 Associate Member in the Pacific. In January 2004, Samoa, in collaboration with UNESCO, successfully hosted the Meeting of the Pacific Education Ministers in Apia, which was attended by 16 Member States in the Region.

    As of September 2006, the country has 73 schools participating in UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
