After 22 years absence, Singapore has become UNESCO’s 193rd Member State on 8 October 2007. According to the Global Monitoring Report on Education for All 2007, the literacy rate for people aged 15-24 in Singapore is close to 100%.

The Singapore Ministry of Education launched in 2007 the FutureSchools@Singapore project, an initiative which aims to harness information and communication technologies (ICT) effectively for learning, and to ensure the country’s education system and programmes are relevant in preparing its students for the future.
