Welcome to the third edition of the Global Alliance Newsletter. It is a busy time for the Alliance with our first international conference 'Partnerships on the Move' taking place in Paris, 12 September. That is to be followed by the workshop 'Building and Promoting Creative Cities,' 13 September.
There have been exciting developments with the Creative Cities Network in recent months. New cities have been appointed and applications keep arriving from cities all over the world to join the network.
We are also continuing our efforts to improve our website and newsletter to help our members communicate and collaborate. If you have any interesting news or information to distribute, websites that you think are useful, or ideas you wish to share with members, please get in touch and we will announce it for you.

Gaston Kaboré is one of today’s most well-known specialists of African cinema. A filmmaker himself, he is also a teacher and his activities help foster the recognition and promotion of African cinema. During the most recent FESPACO, the famous pan African festival for cinema and television of Ouagadougou in which he regularly participates, he was the main trainer for the workshop on ‘Training and Issues of Professionalism,’ under the aegis of the Global Alliance. With varied and specialized professional experience, Mr. Kaboré was an adviser at the University of Ouagadougou and the African Institute for Cinematographic Education, then became director of national cinematography of Burkina Faso for a decade as well as Secretary-General of Pan-African Federation of Filmmakers from 1985 to 1997. Today he is director of his own training company ‘Imagine’ in Burkina Faso. He talks to us about his experiences, projects and his vision for the future of African cinema. |
