    Fiji joined UNESCO on 14 July 1983. The country is covered by the UNESCO Office in Apia, Samoa.

    In the field of education, Fiji currently has two UNEVOC centres and holds a UNESCO Chair in Teacher Education and Culture established in 1998 at the University of the South Pacific.

    As of September 2006, Fiji has 52 schools participating in UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
