Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research Becomes the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance

The Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme and the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) work together to assist United Nations Member States in the adoption of national educational curriculum on the Holocaust. The two organizations also support each other's public information activities designed to encourage Holocaust remembrance and education by Governments and civil society groups in order to help to prevent future acts of genocide. The IHRA was established in 1998 under the name " Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research (ITF), changed its name in 2013 and adopted a new logo designed by Daniel Liebskind.

The IHRA has now 31 member countries. It consists of representatives of government, as well as governmental and non-governmental organizations. The United Nations Department of Public Information's Holocaust Programme is a permanent observer at the plenary meetings of IHRA and contributes to the efforts of its Educational Working Group, and special subcommittees on the Holocaust and Other Genocides and Holocaust Remembrance Days.

OSCE's ODIHR - ITF Meeting commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Kristallnacht pogrom, 10 November 2008, Hofburg, Vienna

The OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe)'s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and the Austrian Chairmanship of the Task Force for International Co-operation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research (ITF) organized a meeting on 10 November 2008 in Vienna to mark the 70th anniversary of the Kristallnacht pogrom.  The roundtable discussion addressed the role of Holocaust commemoration in combating anti-Semitism and other forms of intolerance.

Francis Deng

Francis Deng, Special Adviser of the United Nations Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide, provided a statement presenting the work of the United Nations on Holocaust remembrance and combating of anti-Semitism.
