Engineering Education
'The foundation of every state is the education of its youth'.
This statement by the Greek philosopher Diogenes Laertius expresses the importance of education in modern society. Given the complexity of contemporary global challenges, such as the sustainable consumption of resources and climate change adaptation, supporting and investing in engineering education is essential for the improvement of societies. The education and training of future engineers is necessary to develop innovative solutions to these challenges and to improve the quality of life for all. To keep pace with global demands, there is a need for more engineers. Therefore, the UNESCO Engineering Initiative is increasing awareness of engineering by developing projects with private partners that encourage engineering studies at the secondary and tertiary levels.
