  • Gender Training Tools and Resources

    • Gender Academy Event (In partnership with the UN Women Global Training Centre and ILO International Training Centre)

      The Gender Academy is a two week event organized by the ILO International Training Centre (ITC-ILO) in Turin and co-sponsored by the UN Women Global Training Centre (GTC). Held in three languages (English, French and Spanish), it offers a unique opportunity to gain knowledge and share best practices in the field of gender mainstreaming. It will offer participants a unique opportunity to participate in high level training events: master classes, panels and workshops on Gender and network with international experts, academia and practitioners. Dates: 11-22 November 2013.

    • Working with Gender Based Violence Survivors (2012)

      The manual (Arabic and English) is a reference to build UNRWA frontline staff capacity to address gender based violence. It has 8 units that define concepts, approaches, and international standards for addressing gender based violence. It introduces counseling and defines the interventions for health care providers, educators and social workers.
      Country focus: Jordan, Lebanon, the oPt, and Syria.

    • Gender Equality, UN Coherence, & You

      This online course has been developed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM, now part of UN Women). The four agencies created the course to raise awareness of gender issues and dynamics and to ensure that their staff achieves a consistent level of knowledge. The course aims to contribute to a common understanding of terminology, core principles and effective approaches that help agencies work together on gender programming. Introducing a range of foundational information on gender equality and UN coherence, the objectives for this course are to strengthen gender programming knowledge and skills required for UN staff; build knowledge and skills on gender equality required for UN programme staff; identify positive entry points for strengthened programming; and gain understanding of how themes of gender equality and UN coherence mutually reinforce each other.

    • Say NO – UNiTE quiz on violence against women

      Say NO – UNiTE to End Violence against Women, UN Women’s social mobilization platform contributing towards the UN Secretary-General's UNiTE campaign, launched an online quiz on violence against women. Test your knowledge and have your score count towards Say NO's global action counter.

    • Breakaway: Interactive Electronic Game Brings Gender Issues Into Play

      With a trailer featuring football star Samuel Eto'o urging viewers to be champions by ending violence against women, the online game was launched during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa as part of the UN Secretary-General's UNITE Campaign. UNFPA initiated the project as a way to reach out to 8- to 15-year-old boys from all over the world, whose attitudes are crucial to changing gender dynamics, at a very formative stage of their development.

      UN Women Training Centre develops and implements UN Women's training strategy for the capacity development of UN Women, UN system staff, and partners. It develops UN system training programmes in gender equality and the empowerment of women, in close partnership with UN Staff College, UNITAR, and other UN training institutions, and with maximum use of on-line training techniques, through alliance building with governments, international organizations, academia, civil society.

      The UN Women Gender Training Wiki is a participatory virtual platform of information and resources on Gender Training, It contains an interactive map displaying institutions offering gender trainings, gender related training materials and a section for upcoming and online training courses on gender. Users are encouraged to add materials or resources, and provide suggestions.

    • Compendium of Good Practices in Gender Training

      The Compendium of Good Practices in Gender Training aims to make gender equality training and capacity development more effective by collecting and assessing good practices in Gender Training, in the view of their promotion, replication and systematization of lessons learned.

    • Training Manual on Gender and Climate Change

      The publication responds to the needs of policy makers and climate change scientists to understand and address better the gender dimensions of climate change. It clarifies the linkages between gender and climate change mitigation and adaptation. It is a practical tool to increase the capacity of policy and decision makers to develop gender-responsive climate change policies and strategies. This manual has been produced by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the Gender and Water Alliance, ENERGIA International Network on Gender and Sustainable Energy, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO) as part of the Global Gender and Climate Alliance (GGCA).

    • Gender Training For Peacekeepers: Preliminary Overview of United Nations Peace Support Operations

      Gender training has been promoted as a key strategy in efforts to mainstream gender perspectives into United Nations peacekeeping operations since the Security Council passed its Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security in 2000. This paper introduces the concept of gender training for peacekeepers, discusses the institutional and political contexts within which gender training has been implemented in United Nations missions and troop-contributing countries and presents a preliminary overview of gender training opportunities for peacekeepers globally.

    • Gender Equality eLearning Programme

      This eLearning Programme for UNESCO staff contains 6 modules, each taking approximately 15 minutes to complete. Every module includes, in additional to the core content, quizzes, links to relevant documents or web sites and references for further reading to expand learning in each topic area.

    • UN Gender Score Card to mainstream Gender Equality

      The Scorecard is intended to provide an assessment of what the UNCT as a whole contributes to gender mainstreaming and consequently to the promotion of gender equality in the country. The main focus is on gender mainstreaming strategies and processes, rather than on development results. The Scorecard helps UNCTs become more aware of their own performance on gender equality and thus better positioned to take action in order to enhance their performance. UNESCO, 2008

    • UN-HABITAT: Gender in Local Government: A Sourcebook for Trainers

      Local governments have significant responsiblties to strengthen gender equality in decision making, development policies and planning, and service delivery. The manual 'Gender in Local Government: A Sourcebook for Trainers' is designed to assist training institutions in mainstreaming gender in capacity building for local government. It consists of gender concepts, gender analysis and tools in areas of local government.

    • IFAD: Gender and Household Food Security - Knowledge notes
