Nurturing the democratic debate.
UNESCO and the China Folklore Photographic Association (CFPA) are presenting “Memories of Humanity”, an exhibition of some 1,000 pictures by 100 photographers who took part in the four editions of the international “Humanity Photo Awards” (HPA) competition.
The show sheds light on our planet’s cultural diversity, in particular through ancestral rites and folk traditions, and focuses on several themes: festivities, daily life, architecture, sports and leisure, traditional rites, portraits and costumes. Created in 1998 by the CFPA, a Beijing-based NGO, the HPA competition, which is open to amateurs and professionals, aims to promote the preservation of the intangible cultural heritage of peoples and the dialogue between civilisations. With UNESCO’s support, every two years it rewards photographers whose pictures attest to the planet’s cultural richness
