PRS (Poverty Reduction Strategies)

Some development agencies have chosen to move ‘beyond’ SWAps in several countries, recognizing sectoral development plans and education sector plans as components of overall national planning, usually as a part of any poverty reduction strategy (PRS).

Poverty Reduction Strategies (PRS) and PRSPs (Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers) are prepared by the member country in collaboration with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as well as civil society and development partners.

Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers (PRSP) describe a country's macroeconomic, structural and social policies and programs to promote growth and reduce poverty, as well as associated external financing needs.

Governments through a participatory process involving civil society and development partners, including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), prepare PRSPs.
