  • The First Lady of Azerbaijan and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva delivers her speech at Youth Employment Summit held in Baku on 24 - 27 September 2008

    04-11-2008 2:30 am On 24 September 2008 Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva, First Lady of the Republic of Azerbaijan and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador continues her tireless activities to expand her achievements in her usual working fields: culture, education, healthcare and youth. This time, Baku became a host city for another important international gathering –the YES Summit of 2008.Youth Employment Summit.jpg

    The YES Campaign is an action-oriented initiative in 55 countries that responds to the enormous global challenge of youth unemployment through a youth leadership and enterprise-based model.
    Conference participants from many worldwide nations were greeted by H.E. Mrs. Aliyeva as well as such esteemed guests as H.E. Suzanne Mubarak, First Lady of Egypt, Mrs. Marianna Vardinoyannis, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Ms. Poonam Ahluwalia, YES Inc. President and Dr. Ismail Serageldin, YES Campaign Committee and Director of Alexandria Library. Speakers and delegates underlined the importance of learning how this young country – Azerbaijan– has engaged and empowered its youth through its different government sponsored programs.

    Delivering her speech at the YES Summit, Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva said: “Youth is the greatest strategic and innovative resource of every country that is why their employment is the priority of state policy. The training of highly qualified workers to adapt to the conditions of market economy and possession of new technologies are issues of strategic importance. The level of economic growth and the future of our countries depend on how these issues are addressed.”
