The 2011 Regional Summit of Heads of State of South East Europe will focus on “Contemporary Art and Reconciliation in South-East Europe”. It will take place on 1 and 2 September 2011 and is co-organised by the President of the Republic of Serbia, Mr Boris Tadic, and the Director-General of UNESCO, Ms Irina Bokova.
This year’s Summit is the 9th in a series of very successful meetings during which Heads of State and other country representatives have assembled in a strong commitment to reinforcing and sustaining cooperation in South-East Europe through dialogue and constructive exchanges. Each delegation will be accompanied this year by three contemporary artists. The Declarations adopted at the end of each Summit now constitute a formidable resource for building bridges for development and cooperation between the participating States, European institutions and, of course, UNESCO.
The Summit, which will be held in the ancient Roman city of Viminacium in Eastern Serbia, and in Belgrade, is a welcome opportunity to consolidate the manifold bonds between South-East European countries and to create new joint initiatives for the future.
