The status and entitlements of Young Professionals Upon entry on duty at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, the YP receives a one-year contract, which corresponds to a probationary period. The YP is considered a Staff Member of UNESCO and an International Civil Servant.

 
Appointment
After one year of service, if the evaluation is satisfactory, the YP may be considered for an international professional post on the basis of renewable fixed-term contracts of two years. The YP’s professional development and his/her ability to adapt to UNESCO’s intercultural environment are major criteria for the evaluation process.

Your salary and benefits
The YP’s salary is commensurate with the professional level of the YP, including benefits, which take account of their dependants and the cost of living at the respective duty station (Paris).

Base salary
The base salary, which corresponds to grade P-1, is the same throughout the United Nations system. It is calculated in U.S. dollars and will be higher if the YP has dependants.

Post adjustment
The base salary is supplemented by a post adjustment, which takes into account the cost of living at your duty station, Paris (France), and also the exchange rate of the U.S. Dollar. The equivalent of the YP’s salary in Euros is stabilized by this adjustment.

Tax exemption
Salaries, grants and allowances paid by UNESCO are usually exempt from income tax.
