Internships

What are the status and entitlements of interns at UNESCO?

Internships in UNESCO have a special status reflecting the personal nature of your commitment. That is why they are not remunerated or paid.

japanesegarden4_250.jpgUNESCO does not remunerate or pay interns. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.

UNESCO accepts no responsibility for the medical insurance of interns or for costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship. Interns are fully responsible for arranging at their own expense health and other forms of insurance covering the period of internship at UNESCO.

Applicants for internship must provide a medical certificate of good health prior to being admitted to the internship programme.

Your internship springs from your own personal initiative, and as such is part of your ongoing studies; it entails no commitment on the part of UNESCO.

As the internship programme is not connected with the recruitment process, the granting of an internship should not be interpreted in any way as a preliminary step towards employment at the Secretariat.
