Countrywide Consultations with Pakistan’s Creative Sector

UNESCO Pakistan with the support of the Denmark's Centre for Culture and Development completed countywide consultations - discussing policies for cultural and creative sectors in the country. These consultations were held in Lahore, Karachi
and Islamabad respectively in July and were attended by government and civil society and creative entrepreneurs and representatives from UNESCO. They discussed the state of affairs of Pakistan's culture and creative sectors, made recommendations on policies for the creative sector and for the ratification of the 2005 UNESCO Convention for the Protection and Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development marked at National College of Arts, Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi, 31 May 2016:The UNESCO World Cultural Diversity Day was organized at the National College of Arts (NCA) Rawalpindi to particularly address the role of Diverse Groups in Promoting Cultural and Creative Industries. The objective of
the gathering was to increase awareness of stakeholders on the UNESCO 2005 Convention for the Protection and Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expressions. The event was organized by UNESCO and the National College of Arts with the support of the Danish Center for Culture and Development (CKU) and in collaboration with C2D, Unicorn Black and Special Talent Exchange Programme (STEP). Read more...

Government urged to accelerate efforts for effective and appropriate legislations on Right to Information and Journalists' Safety in Pakistan

Islamabad - 3 May 2015: Participants requested the government to accelerate the adoption of the Right to Information and Journalists' Safety legislations in Pakistan. These demands came up through the concluding session of the World Press Freedom Day

 UNESCO organizes event on World Press Freedom Day in Islamabad

UNESCO is promoting international cooperation on management of transboundary floods

Lahore 19-20 April 2016: A two-day international workshop titled 'Standardizing Flood Forecasting and Warning Approaches in Transboundary Catchments' was jointly organized by UNESCO and PMD aimed at standardizing procedures
for Transboundary Rivers in the context of flood forecasting. This international workshop is part of phase-II of UNESCO's "Strategic Strengthening of Flood Early Warning and Management Capacity of Pakistan" Project, which was launched in March 2015. The phase-I of the project was launched in July 2011 and completed in 2014 in a bit to respond to the 2010 devastated flood in cooperation with the Government of Japan. Read more...

Sustainable Development Goal-4

UNESCO, UNICEF, Federal Ministry of Education and Professional Training, Provincial Ministries of Education launched successful consultations.

Four consultations were held in four cities in Pakistan (Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar) within the framework of the global SDG-4 and its targets which aim at ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. The workshops were drawn upon the Framework For Action (FFA) Education 2030 adopted in November 2015 by UNESCO Member States that aims at supporting all countries to realize their own vision and ambitions for education. Read more...

World Radio Day 2016: Radio in times of emergency and disaster

UNESCO Islamabad joined hands with Pakistan radio broadcasting and media organizations to mark the fifth edition of the World Radio Day.
Islamabad, 11 February 2016: Workshop on Radio Saves Lives

UNESCO Islamabad together with the UN Information Center (UNIC) and the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) commemorated the World Radio Day 2016 under the sub theme, "Radio Save Lives", in Islamabad.

More than 130 reporters and producers from the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, radio experts, and representatives from the United Nations System in Pakistan highlighted the work of the UN system as well as the importance of radio in times of emergency and disaster situation. Read more...
