UNESCO & UN REFORM

Albania

UNESCO's participation in the "Delivering as one" Pilot in Albania is assured by the Regional Bureau for Science and Culture (BRESCE) based in Venice.

As a Non-Resident Agency UNESCO’s presence is organized in connection with UNESCO’s National Commission in Albania and through UNESCO’s projects in the country.

A fact-finding mission was carried out to Albania at the end of March 2007 by the Directors of UNESCO’s Office in Venice (BRESCE) and UNESCO CEPES (Bucharest). The mission was carried out to identify and assess the position of the UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC) and UN System in the One UN process concerning the programmatic aspects. Objectives of the mission also included obtaining National Development Plans, discussing with national authorities concerning the expected involvement by UNESCO over the next 5-6 years, logistics, and interaction with the UNRC.

Resources have been made available to the BRESCE Office in order to hire a local consultant, based in Albania to execute activities in cooperation with BRESCE team.
