Central African Republic

The Central African Republic joined UNESCO on 11 November 1960. It is covered by the UNESCO Regional Office in Yaoundé (Cameroon).

In education, the Central African Republic is implementing a national development programme in tandem with an Education For All action plan. Teacher training is emphasized to improve the quality of basic education. In 2007, the country ratified the Regional Convention on the Recognition of Studies, Certificates, Diplomas, Degrees and other Academic Qualifications in Higher Education in the African States.

The country is also focused on safeguarding and promoting traditional cultures. The oral traditions of the Aka Pygmies of Central Africa were proclaimed a Masterpiece of intangible heritage in 2003. A safeguarding plan for their survival is ongoing.

The country also works with UNESCO on capacity-building projects for its media professionals.
