Emile Durkheim, French sociologist and anthropologist, is considered one of the founders of modern sociology.
After studies in philosophy, he undertook, in the positivist tradition of Auguste Comte, to turn sociology into a science with its own object and method, asserting the specificity of social facts in contrast to organic and psychological phenomena.
Professor at the Sorbonne, he was the author of many outstanding sociological studies, such as that on suicide, which are no less relevant today.
