Trinidad and Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago joined UNESCO on November 2, 1962.
Since that time, the country has played a major role in UNESCO intersectoral projects in education and in information and communication.
Trinidad and Tobago possesses a rich documentary heritage resulting in several inscriptions on the Memory of the World Register.
The local radio station, Radio Toco, was awarded the 2004 International Programme for the Development of Communications (IPDC) Prize. Since its launch in 1997, Radio Toco has aired programs on community issues such as pre-school education, HIV/AIDS and public health.
UNESCO’s Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura paid his first official visit to Trinidad and Tobago in 2005.
