Gambia "Stigma and Discrimination" was chosen as the theme of a many-faceted ASPnet campaign in Gambia between December 2002 (World AIDS Day) and June 2003.

 

The Gambia National Commission for UNESCO and the Gambian ASP network organized five different HIV/AIDS-related activities: a poster competition; a symposium; a march, a quiz and debate competition and a theatre play. The symposium included the projection of a video documentary and presentations on HIV/AIDS by the directors of two well-known HIV/AIDS-related charities: Astou's Foundation for Children and Orphans Living with AIDS and the Santa Yalla Support Society. The winners of the quiz were St Joseph's School and Gambia High School. "Prevention: Government and Society Versus Personal and Individual” was the topic of the debate for which the trophy went to Latrikunda Upper Basic School, whose team argued that prevention was the responsibility of individuals. Forced marriage and girls’ education were the themes of a play written and performed by students at the Gambia Senior Secondary School, which dealt with HIV/AIDS in a typical African context, concluding the Stigma and Discrimination campaign.
