The country is covered by the UNESCO National Office in Amman.  The Office temporarily houses the UNESCO National Office for Iraq.

The International Centre for Synchrotron Light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME), located in Allan, was created under the auspices of UNESCO and came into existence as an intergovernmental organization on 15 April 2004. Once operational (2010), SESAME will focus on structural molecular biology, atomic and molecular sciences, surface and interface science, environmental science, material science and archaeological science. User-community training is already underway.

Jordan’s collaboration with UNESCO’s Natural Sciences Division extends to many other fields such as disaster reduction, hydrology, biodiversity and ecology.
