LegislationThe legal instrument of the Commission was established by the Resolution of the Council of Ministers of 1979. However, even prior to its official establishment, the Commission was functioning as a section within the Ministry of Education.
Documentation CentreThe Documentation Centre gathers 3000 publications, which are mainly issued by UNESCO, ALECSO, ISESCO and the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States. Some 300 visitors consult the Centre each year (university and school students, researchers, academics, etc.)
The Centre is computerised and administered by a professional librarian who graduated in Library Sciences from Cairo University.
Structure of the CommissionThe National Commission is composed of the following bodies:
- The General Assembly, which meets once or twice a year;
- Two Specialized Committees for: Scholarships and the Associated Schools Project;
- The Secretariat, which includes 3 divisions: 1) Programme and Activities, and Educational, Scientific and Cultural Agreements; 2) Information
and Scholarships ; 3) International, Regional and Arab Organizations .

The Commission has no Executive Committee.
Members/CompositionThe membership of the Commission includes representatives of the government, Ministries, the Kuwait University, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters as well as institutions specialized in the fields of UNESCO's competence.
Executive CommitteeThe Commission has no Executive Committee.
General AssemblyComposed of 13 members representing the Ministries of Education, Higher Education, Foreign Affairs, Social Affairs and Labour, Information, The Kuwait National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, the Kuwait University; the Public Authority for Applied Education Training; the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research; and he Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Sciences.
Meets once or twice a year.
Committees or Sub-CommitteesThere is a Committee for Scholarships and one for the Associated Schools Project. Their membership includes various ministries, governmental institutions/bodies, and NGOs.

Interaction with UNESCO and National Commissions
OverviewThe Kuwait National Commission maintains close working relations and cooperation with all National Commissions in general, and with the Arab National Commissions, in particular. It also collaborates with the UNESCO Field Offices in Doha, Beirut and Cairo. As in many other countries in the Arab States, the National Commission is also responsible for coordinating Kuwait's relations with ALECSO, ISESCO, and the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States.
