Three sites inscribed on the World Heritage List and a tentative list now being drawn up with the assistance of UNESCO demonstrate that Bangladesh is concerned with safeguarding a heritage damaged by increased salinity and climate change.

In the field of handicrafts, the country plays a part in the SEAL of Excellence initiative.

With regard to cultural policies and intercultural dialogue, it is concerned to protect and promote traditional Bengali culture while upgrading relations between cultural diversity and biodiversity as a basis for sustainable development.

Bangladesh and UNESCO also cooperate in the field of intangible heritage. The Baul Songs were proclaimed Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2005 and an action plan has been implemented to foster their transmission.
