Kazakhstan has already achieved three Education For All goals: universal primary education, adult literacy, and gender parity in primary education.
In 2006-2007, UNESCO Almaty worked with the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the government and other partners to conduct the first major research project on Kazakhstan as a destination country for labour migrants. This is an area of increasing importance throughout Central Asia, and of particular interest to Kazakhstan’s government.
The country is interested in developing cooperation with UNESCO in the areas of renewable sources of energy as well as inter-cultural and inter-religious dialogue.
There are 5 UNESCO Chairs in Kazakhstan. The first and only UNESCO Chair in Music is established at the Kazakh National Academy of Music, to study the musical heritage of Central-Asia and contemporary national culture.
