With its eleven national cultural sites and two transfrontier sites (one natural and one cultural), Poland is well represented on the World Heritage List.

Cooperation with UNESCO on these sites is very active, particularly as regards Auschwitz. The country promotes its sites and liaises with UNESCO on training personnel and preparing nominations.

Poland attaches importance to safeguarding the intangible heritage : to this end it believes in training future generations and organizes summer sessions on protection of the cultural heritage through tourism for young specialists from Eastern European countries.

In the framework of the fight agains the illicit trafficking of cultural property, Poland participates in the programme for the protection of Iraq's cultural heritage.

In August 2007, Poland further reinforced its ties with UNESCO by ratifiying the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
