Republic of Moldova

The Republic of Moldova joined UNESCO on 27 May 1992. It is covered by the Organization’s office based in Moscow.

The Education for All (EFA) programme has been integrated into Moldova’s national poverty reduction strategy as a result of the government’s collaboration with UNESCO. Another collaborative project for early childhood care set up 12 community centres with educational material and internet connections to benefit young children from rural zones.

The country has two UNESCO Chairs, the UNESCO Chair in Southeast European Studies at the State University of Moldova and the UNESCO-Cousteau Ecotechnie Chair at the Technical University of Moldova.

Safeguarding heritage and preserving cultural diversity are other domains of particular interest to Moldova.
