The START Tool is a practical guide for archeologists interested in learning how space systems can be used as a complement to existing terrestrial and aerial tools. It has been created by the START Team - graduate students of the International Space University (ISU).
The START tool is coherent with UNESCO’s ‘Open Initiative’. Jointly with UNESCO's specialists, the International Space University (ISU) has launched a website designed to demonstrate the applications of space systems for the archeological community in discovery, monitoring or mapping their archaeological site of interest.
The START Tool is a practical guide for archeologists interested in learning how space systems can be used as a complement to existing terrestrial and aerial tools. It has been created by 20 interdisciplinary students from 16 countries during the 2006/2007 Masters of Space Science/Space Management program at ISU.
The website provides background information regarding space systems, data acquisitions methods, distribution, and applications to archaeology at an introductory level. The goal of the website is to provide understanding of the benefits of space systems when discovering and identifying new sites, making detailed maps of known sites and monitoring human and environmental interactions with sites.
