The UNESCO Monitor (the precursor of UNESCO Courier) was launched in August 1947, two years after UNESCO's creation. In 1948, the first issue of the UNESCO Courier was published and has since become a flagship publication.
Since the first issue, the Natural Sciences Sector of UNESCO has been actively reflecting on its mission, particularly concerning the environment, through articles from different experts around the world.
In 2001, after fifty years of excellent work and exchanges between international experts and decision makers it was decided to suspend print publication of the UNESCO Courier.
Since no organization today can fulfill its objective without the support of the media, the “paper” publication has been replaced by the on-line publication.
Fortunately, today the Courier is still alive and a monthly on-line version is available in the six official languages of UNESCO (English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian and Chinese). More
