The country is covered by the UNESCO National Office in Bujumbura.
Burundi is involved in the Great Apes Survival Project (GRASP), the 1st concerted approach ever developed to face a major extinction crisis. Through the project, scientific research is carried out to generate information necessary for the survival of great apes and their habitat and genuine partnerships are established between all stakeholders of the fragile ecosystems where the apes live to allow for integrated management of these areas.
