The country hosts UNESCO Cluster Office to Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Turkmenistan in Teheran.


There are two centres operating under the auspices of UNESCO in the country: the Regional Centre for Urban Water Management (RCUWM) in Tehran and the International Centre on Qanats and Historic Hydraulic Structures in Yazd.

UNESCO and the Iranian authorities are currently working together to establish a UNESCO chair in science and technology policy.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is currently involved in a project aiming to enhance the sustainable management of marginal drylands. It is taking part in an earthquake mitigation programme and many Earth Science research projects.
