The country is covered by the UNESCO Cluster Office in Beijing, China.

UNESCO is cooperating with the Korea international Agency (KOICA) and the World Technopolis association to build capacity and provide technical assistance on Science and Technology Park development.


The Jeju Island Biosphere Reserve, located at the centre of the island, has been established to conserve a rich biodiversity and local culture, which attract many tourists.

Women in Science

Assistant Professor V. Narry KIM (Republic of Korea). L'Oréal-UNESCO Laureate 2008 for Asia-Pacific. For elucidating several key steps in the formation of a new class of generegulating RNA molecules. She has made major contributions to the understanding of microRNA biogenesis, and her pioneering studies have laid the groundwork for the development of RNA interference technologies, with promising potential biotechnology and medical adaptations.
