Tripoli, Lybia from 22nd to 24th June 2008

A recent African Congress on Biotechnology was organized by the Biotechnology Research Centre (BTRC) in Tripoli, the great Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, in cooperation with UNESCO. This event was held in Tripoli, Libya from 22 to 24th June 2008 and the opening session saw the participation of Mr Agilla Hussin Agilla, Secretary of General Public Committee of Higher Education, Mr Ma'toug Mohamed Ma'toug, Secretary of General People's Committee for Manpower, Training and Employment, Mr Mahamoud G. Abrahim, Secretary General of National Planning, Dr Ali M. Gashut, Secretary, National Authority for Scientific Research (NASR), as well as the Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya to UNESCO H. E. Mr Abdulsalam El-Qallali.

One of the major outcomes of the Conference was the issuance of a declaration, the Tripoli Declaration which was universally endorsed by all participants and which sets out a number of recommendations for follow-up action to address capacity-building needs of the Region.
