On 29 January 2008, the Director-General of UNESCO, Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, opened the ICTP Steering Committee meeting held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris

The meeting was held to review the recommendations of a performance audit of ICTP conducted by UNESCO’s Internal Oversight Service (IOS). The aim of the audit was to determine the efficiency of the ICTP processes and activities as well as its compliance with UNESCO rules and regulations.

The results of the audit were extremely positive and proved that ICTP was successfully fulfilling its mission to build capacity in physics and mathematics in the developing world. The recommendations of the audit will then be implemented at the centre and the Steering Committee will once again convene to analyse the feedback.

ICTP, located in Trieste, Italy is a UNESCO category I Institute. The ICTP Steering Committee is made up of representatives from the ICTP Secretariat, the Italian Government, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and UNESCO.
